First Reviews of The Flash Movie The Flash movie, starring Ezra Miller as Barry Allen DC Warner Bros. presented the first screening of DC Studios' The Flash at CinemaCon 2023. Reviewers who attended the screening shared their initial thoughts on the upcoming film.

Erik Davis of Fandango praised the film as "tremendous" and "among the best superhero films ever made," describing how it left the audience "in tears:"

"DC's "The Flash" is AMAZING! It is without a doubt one of the greatest superhero films ever made, so forget DC. An all-clock. Creative narrating, Incredible activity groupings, extraordinary cast. SO MANY geeky subtleties. At the end, I am weeping. Brandon Davis of ComicBook.com gave the new DC movie high marks, highlighting how well the "dynamic of two Barry Allen's" was executed:

"Damn, 'The Flash' is excellent! It is extremely imaginative conceptually and visually. The two Barry Allens' dynamic is insanely well done. Feelings hit me seriously hard, strong astonishments, and it made me need to observe once more and truly anxious to perceive how they follow it. Thank you."

Scott Mantz of Variety describes The Flash as "one of the very best DC movies," highlighting the outstanding performances of Ezra Miller and Michael Keaton:

"The Flash" is fantastic! One of the very best DC films, with just the right amount of humor, heart, and action! There are so many WOW-inducing and calming moments that long-time DC fans will enjoy! EZRA Mill operator is great (two times, really!) and MICHAEL KEATON's actually got it!"

Collider's Steven Weintraub noticed that Mill operator was "soooooo great in this film," giving props to chief Andy Muschietti for making "something particularly amazing:"

"The Flash" is excellent. Even though Ezra Miller has made a lot of mistakes, this movie is so good. Keaton's action, humor, and emotion were my favorites. Andy Muschietti has created something uniquely amazing. Big thumbs up. The scenes after the credits were not shown by WB.

Outside of Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight trilogy, Umberto Gonzalez of The Wrap ranked The Flash as "the GREATEST DC movie of the last 30 years," placing it alongside Christopher Reeves' first Superman film and Michael Keaton's original Batman film:

"Trust the hype! Leaving aside the works of Christopher Nolan, "The Flash" ranks alongside "Superman" 78 and "Batman 89" as the greatest DC film of the past 30 years. The film is groundbreaking in the superhero genre and pays tribute to DC mythology from earlier in its history."

Rob Keyes of Screen Rant teased that fans will see "some stuff in [The Flash] you will not believe," hyping up the way it ties together the old DCEU and the new franchise, which will begin production shortly:

"Just watched 'The Blaze' at CinemaCon. It demonstrates much more of Barry Allen's abilities and contains some unbelievable content. It is, in fact, one of DC's best works, and it works well as a story that connects the old and new DCEU franchises. It's additionally the most entertaining DC film."

Jenna Busch of SlashFilm praised Sasha Calle as Supergirl and called The Flash "pretty great," expressing how much she missed Michael Keaton's Batman.

"'The Blaze' is perfect, and it's a good idea to me now why DC didn't hold this one. Chef's kiss is Michael Keaton. I didn't understand the amount I really wanted Keaton's Batman in my life once more. There are some very moving parts here. I can't wait to see more of Sasha Calle!

Daniel Howat of Next Best Pictures said that The Flash was "massively entertaining." He also said that it used the Multiverse well and was one of the best superhero movies ever:

"'The Flash' is a huge source of entertainment! Extraordinary humor with substantial emotional stakes One of the best movies about the multiverse is this one. Numerous amusing surprises. One of the very best superhero films in a very long time! Incredibly, fulfilling."

Jeff Sneider, who starred in The Ankler, had mixed feelings about the movie, describing the first hour as "pretty fantastic" and the final hour as "mostly terrible:"

"'THE FASHION:' The first hour is pretty good. strikes just the right note. Ezra excels. Heroic. Funny. Emotional. The last hour is primarily awful. Simply a total wreck that will leave you inquiring, "what on God's green earth is going on?" DC's villain problem and fan service return. Mishmash generally."

Rebecca Rubin of Variety was similarly unimpressed by the halfway point of The Flash, stating that she was "completely exhausted" by the start of the second hour:

"One of the greatest superhero films ever made is not "The Flash." Although some of it is entertaining and funny, by the second hour, I was completely worn out. However, keep in mind that it took me at least five minutes to recognize Michael Keaton.

According to Katcy Stephan of Variety, the film has "very little to actually say:" According to Stephan, the title "best superhero movie of all time" that has been given to The Flash is not justified.

"The Flash" is an ambitious film that says very little. It has cliches everywhere and is much longer than it needs to be. It has similar themes to other titles of its kind, but it doesn't do them nearly as well. A long ways from the "best hero film ever."

Andrew Salazar of Discussing Film praised Andy Muschietti for capturing the essence of what a lot of people wanted in a Flash movie, but he also teased some "bizarre decisions" regarding the story and technical aspects:

"It is possible to deliver glorious high thrills in "The Flash." What many of us have always envisioned for a cinematic Flash story is captured by Andy Muschietti. However, there are also numerous "bizarre" decisions. Some are technical, others are story-related. Not astounding yet very great now and again.

Salazar continued by hinting that fans of DC Comics as well as general audiences will enjoy The Flash:

"This is neither one of the most outstanding superhuman films within recent memory nor an all out dumpster fire, which it effectively might have been! My forecast is: This will totally please the general public. DC fans who have been around for a long time will also be delighted. It is made especially for that experience."

Collider's Perri Nemiroff posted a drawn out audit of the film, noticing the amount she delighted in "how the account provokes Barry to face what his identity is" and who he needs to turn into.

She praised Andy Muschietti for "yet another winner," even though she didn't think it was perfect, and she confirmed that she left wanting to see the movie again:

"Received an unfinished version of "The Flash," and I really enjoyed it! Especially the way the story forces Barry to think about who he is, what he could have been, and how the people in one's life influence one.

It successfully combines touching elements of adolescence, great action (I really enjoyed the style of the Flash's powers and the creativity in those scenes), and a lot of big laughs. The timing and delivery of the comedy are spot-on.

It's a great deal of film and there were minutes when I could to some degree feel it surrendering to the strain of the mechanics of the idea and the subjects it's investigating, however generally, it moves well, looks great, transmits excitement for the characters and story it's telling, and left me needing another survey. One more champ for Andy Muschietti."

Sean O'Connell of CinemaBlend says that after watching The Flash, he wants to see it a lot more, praising Miller's outstanding performances:

"Nostalgic. HILARIOUS. With lots of heart and two remarkable exhibitions by Ezra Mill operator. Sincerely, I am incredulous that "The Flash" actually exists. It's amazing. It presses each button. I'll see it a thousand times."
